I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as your President. I accept this responsibility with a passionate commitment to ensuring that psychology in Zimbabwe is a vital, responsive force for change and healing within our own communities.
As we embark on this journey together, I want to share with you the priorities that will guide my tenure and our collective work. First and foremost, I am committed to fostering a sense of community within our psychology professionals. We are stronger when we stand together, support one another, and collaborate in pursuit of our shared mission to serve the mental health and wellbeing of our nation.
I am dedicated to employing evidence-based practices in all that we do. Our field is built on rigorous research and scientific inquiry, and we must continue to uphold these standards in our clinical work, research endeavors, and policy advocacy. By grounding our practices in solid evidence, we ensure that we provide the highest quality care and maintain the trust that our communities place in us.
Supporting professional development and continuing education for all members is paramount. The field of psychology is constantly evolving, and we must evolve with it. I will work to ensure that every member of our association has access to opportunities for growth, learning, and advancement throughout their careers. Your professional excellence is our collective strength.
Finally, I am committed to advocating for the value of psychology in our society and raising awareness of the importance of the work we do. Too often, mental health remains misunderstood or stigmatized. We must be vocal champions for our profession and for the people we serve, ensuring that psychological services are recognized as essential to individual and community wellbeing.
Together, we can strengthen our collective voice and ensure that psychology plays a significant role in addressing human issues confronting the world and contributing to the process of national development. The challenges we face are considerable, but so too is our capacity to make meaningful, lasting change in the lives of those we serve.
I look forward to working alongside each of you in this important endeavour. Let us move forward with purpose, unity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in psychological practice and service.
With gratitude and dedication,
Juliet Makondora- Mateta
