The Zimbabwe Psychological Association (ZPA) is governed through a democratic, member-centered structure that ensures representation, transparency, and adherence to the highest professional standards. Our governance model balances strategic leadership with grassroots participation, enabling us to respond effectively to the evolving needs of the psychology profession in Zimbabwe.
Registered under the laws of Zimbabwe, the ZPA operates as a professional association with the primary mandate of regulating psychological practice, promoting professional development, and protecting public interests in matters relating to psychological services.
The Zimbabwe Psychological Association (ZPA) extends warm greetings to the global community of psychology professionals. We stand at a pivotal moment, recognizing the immense power of our collective expertise in addressing the complex challenges facing our societies, from mental health disparities to the psychological impacts of climate change and socio-economic shifts. As we continue to develop and strengthen psychology’s role in Zimbabwe, we are eager to foster collaborative partnerships and knowledge exchange with our colleagues worldwide. We believe that by sharing research, best practices, and insights across diverse cultural contexts, we can significantly advance the science and practice of psychology, ultimately improving well-being for all populations. We invite you to connect with us, to engage in dialogue, and to work together towards a more psychologically informed and resilient world.
The President of the Zimbabwe Psychological Association is directly elected by the entire membership, and chairs both the Council of Representatives and the Board of Directors. During their term of office, the president performs such duties as are prescribed in the Bylaws, as are incident to the office, or as may properly be required of the president by vote of council or the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors of the Zimbabwe Psychological Association consists of the ZPA officers — president, president-elect, past president, recording secretary, treasurer, and chief staff officer (without vote) — six members at large elected by and from the general ZPA membership, the chair and chair-elect of the Council Leadership Team, the Past Chair of APAGS and a public member.
The Council is a large, diverse legislative body that has sole authority to set policy and appropriate ZPA’s annual income. It is composed of elected members from state/provincial/territorial psychological associations, ZPA divisions and the ZPA Board of Directors.
Much of ZPA’s work is done on a volunteer basis by the members of boards and committees. Boards and committees carry out a wide variety of tasks as indicated by their names, e.g., Ethics, Membership and Accreditation. Some boards and committees have specific responsibility for monitoring major programs, such as the directorates, the journals and international affairs.
